FMR's Water
Advocate Institute for Seniors

This week, 24 seniors from the
Milwaukee area spent three days at a water conference sponsored by
Friends of Milwaukee's rivers.
Participants learned
about
Wisconsin water issues and how to become an advocate for healthy
lakes and rivers.
The conference
took place over a period of three days, August 21 - 23, 2007.
Conference participants gained knowledge of the following:

Learned what groups are doing to restore the quality
of Lake Michigan.

Found out about invasive species, pollutants, beach
closings, and more.
-
Enjoyed speakers from The WATER Institute, the DNR,
the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District,
Friends of Milwaukee’s Rivers, the City of
Milwaukee, and other organizations.
-
Toured the Milwaukee City water works and the sewage
treatment plants.
-
Saw how they can become an advocate to restore,
revitalize and refresh Milwaukee’s waterways.
-
Identified how and where you can volunteer to take
action on these important water issues.

Green Print
Passed
On a
commanding 16-0 vote, the Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors
approved landmark legislation that will transform the way Milwaukee
County operates, modernize the way services are provided and
preserve resources for future generations.
The
Green Print is a proposed conservation ethic and plan for Milwaukee
County to become more environmentally responsible.
The supporting
coalition includes Friends of Milwaukee's Rivers, the Sierra Club,
Keep Greater Milwaukee Beautiful, Urban Open Space Foundation, The
Parks People, Institute for Wisconsin's Future and many more.
