Milwaukee Riverkeeper Comments - "No Build" option for Zoo Interchange Reconstruction Project

Milwaukee Riverkeeper recommends that the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) select the “No Build” option for the proposed Zoo Interchange Reconstruction Project. The “No Build” option is the only alternative that does not add increased impervious surfaces, destroy natural areas, deforest local Milwaukee County Parkways, disturb the monarch and wildlife habitat on the Milwaukee County Grounds, or require construction of additional stormwater retention/detention facilities. 

Furthermore, this option does not require the purchase and demolition of homes, but would address safety issues and maintenance issues of the existing footprint of the Zoo Interchange. The other 6 and 8 lane alternatives would significantly affect the health of our local waterways and natural areas, and we don’t believe that traffic concerns justify these impacts.
